Audiobook listeners, did you hear the news?

Earlier today, digital audiobook platform Libro.fm announced that it will begin offering ebooks on the platform starting this fall. Along with the expanded catalog, the platform will roll out several new features, including flexible credits that can be used on audiobooks or ebooks; member-exclusive ebooks offers; digital ARCs; and LibroSync, which will allow users who own both formats of a book to read the ebook in tandem with the audiobook, according to the announcement.

The platform will begin by rolling out beta access to its independent bookstore partners, according to the announcement, but it expects users to receive full access to ebooks in the first part of 2027.

Of course, more information is likely to come as the platform's new features roll out, but any additional avenues for book distribution are exciting for indie authors—particularly those who publish wide. Authors interested in distributing audiobooks and ebooks through Libro.fm can find more information at https://support.libro.fm/support/solutions/articles/48001181716-do-you-work-directly-with-authors-to-publish-their-work-. Those who publish through Draft2Digital may also be able to distribute their books to the platform via Draft2Digital’s partnership with Bookshop.org, which was announced earlier this year.

As of today, authors who use the publishing platform will have the option to list their ebooks on Bookshop.org, an online bookseller that donates proceeds from all sales to independent bookstores.

Teachings from Indie Author Training

Webinar: “Outlining for Novelists Who Don't Outline

You love the freedom of discovery writing—but sometimes writing into the dark leads to dead ends, rewrites, or stories that wander off track. "Outlining for Novelists Who Don’t Outline" is a webinar for discovery writers who want practical tools to strengthen their stories.

Presented by Paul Austin Ardoin, a discovery writer, this session rejects the condescending, one-size-fits-all advice so many “plotting” trainings offer. Instead, Paul shows you how to borrow the parts of outlining that actually help—without sacrificing spontaneity, character surprises, or the creative rush that made you fall in love with writing in the first place.

You’ll identify the specific problems holding your manuscript back, from structural issues and weak conflict to character drift, missing story beats, and unmet reader expectations. You’ll also explore flexible techniques such as reverse outlining, using broad plot structures, tracking clues and reveals, and building an outline that works for your brain.

If you’re a pantser, discovery writer, or “write into the dark” novelist who wants more control without losing your voice, this webinar will help you write smarter, finish stronger, and stay true to your process.

More Indie Publishing News

Here’s a look beyond our pages at the latest headlines and happenings in the publishing world.

  • In an email Wednesday, Plotdrive’s founders announced that the tool will be shutting down permanently on September 13. Built-in Plotdrive models no longer work, though users can continue writing, editing, and using external API keys until the site closes. Current users should download their files before the September 13 deadline; however, anyone who misses the September 13 deadline can email Plotdrive at support@plotdrive.com to have their files exported and emailed to them before all user data is permanently deleted September 27.
  • Many authors who advertise their books on TikTok understand the influence of the platform’s readers on the publishing industry, but a report commissioned by the platform has given new numbers to back up those anecdotes. In the UK, according to the report, BookTok has driven £175 million, or around $233 million, in sales. The report was created by Public First; you can view the report here: https://tiktokuk.publicfirst.co/index.html.
  • Fable, the social reading and book club platform, crossed 5 million users earlier this week, according to an article in Publishers Weekly. Those users are often younger, according to the article, "with the vast majority under age 40, split between Gen Z and younger millennials; approximately 85% identify as women.” Although reading community sites like Fable, Goodreads, and StoryGraph are often tailored more toward readers than authors, they still offer unique ways for authors to connect with readers and potentially market their books to new audiences. Fable even allows readers to purchase ebooks through the website. You can learn more at https://fable.co.
